Big mistake with her putting her hands down on the final choreographic element, missing out on easy massive positive GOE and in fact it was like -.20.

They will win, but I found it all meh compared to the free dances last season.
Yeah, last season was one amazing FD after the next. This year's contenders were more cautious.

This is such a polished, well matched team. I don't know where they will slot in the senior ranks next season, but the top teams in the US below Chock/Bates will have to keep improving because this team should be really strong.
They won't stay in juniors for another year?

I don't see the point in doing so. Debuting on the senior level in an Olympic season to get lost in the shuffle behind other teams that suddenly get a boost or momentum?

The US field is deep but skaters at one point are going to start to distance themselves, they can start working on that in the fall.

He is ancestrally Italian but as American as you or I.

If he’s ethnically Italian, has gone through the process of having citizenship recognized, AND is living and training in Italy (yes?), I don’t think he’s sorta Italian. How he wants to identify is up to him, but I don’t put him into the same category as any person with Italian roots.

They just said they haven't decided yet.
What are their chances of getting the GP spot?

World Junior medalists aren't guaranteed anything, at least as of this year, but I'm sure if they wanted to go senior, they would be in heavy consideration for assignment(s) by USFS. I think there's a high chance the US gets close to or the full 18 spots.

Germans medaled -- I'll take it. They skated tight and I don't think I breathed the entire time (especially after that messy warmup), but they got their first junior world medal! :respec: Such a tense final flight -- even N/M showed they were human.

Yeah... presuming no splits or retirements I think there are 7 teams who will get 2 assignments (ChoBat, CarPon, BraSom, GreenP, ZingKol, PateBye, and Browns) which leaves 4 potential spots - it doesn't seem likely that HawBak will be back but if they are then they'd be in the mix along with WolfTsar, FlorDes and NesMark.

Looking at the JGP spots for next season, I don’t see Israel using all fourteen spots and probably not Germany either so that’s good news for France and Canada.

Which is why I think Ped/Chen will be on outside looking in. Not even medaling at a JW where he is a ringer isn’t impressive.

Watching on replay with help from @skatingguy so I know what to look for.
Can Blaasova’s costumer send me a copy of that dress in an appropriately larger size?
Watching Pedersen/Chen has me looking for all the spots where the footwork was watered down. Yahli doesn’t seem capable of level 4 anything on her own.
FraFour seem to have fallen victim to starting the season too strong. Their competition gradually caught up while they stayed pretty much the same. I like them but they’re really getting pushed and the less than stellar RD really hurt them here. If my math is right 🇫🇷 missed the 3rd spot by one placement.
Wing/LoweV2 aka Nguyen/Giang bore me much like their coaches did.
The Peals really bug me. His free leg is never fully extended and that should have been fixed way back in Novice. Lift positions are sus as well. Then there’s the stamina issue. Time to move on from daddy.
For me, 🇮🇱 is generally easier to watch than 🇩🇪, but most of that is due to the cartoon character costumes.
I’m of two minds on Nes/Mar. They might be right on the cusp of getting decent assignments if Parsons decides to retire. He (Parsons) hasn’t looked right all season. But competing junior internationally with a goal of a high placement in senior at US Nats might be a good strategy too for setting up the post Oly run.

Why would they waste another year in Juniors when they won everything they could win? Sometimes teams stay in Juniors too long when they should move up like McNamara/Carpenter who also won everything in 2016 but instead of leaving Juniors behind while they had a lot of momentum they stayed another year and didn't medal at Junior Worlds and even got beat for the US Junior title and finished 3rd when they could have been pushing themselves in Seniors. They were never the same team after that year. What would N/M have to skate for next season another US Junior title? They already got 3 of those. Besides after C/B everything else is up for grabs and they could pass a lot of Senior teams that finished in the top 8 at Nationals this year with more improvement.

I bet they could. They’re probably two or three degrees of Instagram DM separation away.

Despite the blip at the end of their program, I think Neset/Markelov look more “cooked” than many of the up-and-coming and/or second rank US teams. They are not by any means my favorites, probably because of their programs more than execution, but I think they have the “it” factor plus technical stability and are equals more than any of the first rank teams in the US, except for maybe Hawayek/Baker, who might not be back.

Gah, T/K’s program, and her style is so dated, and I love G/S, but T/K skate so closely together, and their lines match so well, that I have to give it to them, no matter how begrudgingly. Plus, they are so already much better at such young ages than the Duchesnays doing that material.

It might be dated, but I love it! I missed this kind of thing, and T/K can keep it up in my world. (Someone please help the Mokhovs, though.)

I don’t insist, but in juniors they will have more chances to get points in the rating and season best. This is exactly what will matter in a year. But it’s unlikely that they plan to get to the Olympic Games, so they can progress slowly.

It's very ironic that the judges supported them all season when they messed up. But now, when they skated without mistakes, the judges didn’t appreciate it
I had a similar thought. Kudos to them for finally putting together two clean programs, but they didn't get a lot of credit for it!

Or maybe going against tougher competition would have made them a better team. That season might have been their time to move up and they lost it by doing nothing but staying put in Juniors.

Lol that rarely turns out, especially in the discipline of senior ice dance. It’s all about a pecking order.

Totally loving the top three dance teams here. Soooo happy for the Israel team moving up to silver. 🇮🇱 Would’ve loved a higher placement for Germany; can’t wait to see them as the top German sr team! 🇩🇪 USA team not my fave aesthetics…but they were smooth…and she wore my fave dress! 🇺🇸
