I wanted Andrew to make the final but I felt that was a bit unfair to Mattea's gameplay, to have them start playing right after talking about their father's recent death.

ETA: Having just come back to correct Mattea's pronouns in my post, can I just say how great Ken's been doing with their pronouns?

James can play into the jerkiness a bit, but when it comes down to it, he seems like a genuinely good person. I mean, look how quickly he left his podium after many of the games to go congratulate the other players.
That finale was a bit of a nail biter. I never expected things to be so close (and so down to the wire) but huge kudos to Mattea for dominating like that. It's too bad it came down to that final Jeopardy.
I was kind of disappointed in Matt. I remember him being so confident during his original run and he's just not like that anymore.
Glad to hear they're doing this again next year. With James, Mattea and Matt returning, I kind of hope there's more than 6 total contestants, and that they bring back older ''master's". Like Buzzy. Or even Brad.

Also, Loved that Ken specified Mattea's winnings were in American dollars. Since IIRC Canadians don't pay taxes on game show winnings, and with the USD to CAD conversion rate, she ends up walking away with about as much as James! (She gets about $340,000 Canadian dollars)

To be fair about Ben's FJ answer, it's not the spelling that's the problem, it's the pronunciation. Contestants can make all the spelling errors they want, but if it affects the pronunciation of the word, it's wrong. It's like calling someone named "Julie" as "Julia". Completely different name and pronunciation, though similar. It sucks, since he knew it, but I agree with the decision.

This Jeopardy fan has created a model that predicts the likelihood of a given Jeopardy champion proceeding onto subsequent rounds Very interesting!

The game show hosts category was moved to the Primetime Emmys this year (used to be part of daytime). Both Mayim and Ken were nominated for hosts. This is Ken's first Emmy nomination (Mayim was previously nominated 4 times for The Big Bang Theory).

Not sure if anyone is watching Celebrity Jeopardy this season, but this week's episode was kind of painful for the first half. At one point one of the contestants had 3 or 4 thousand, and the other two were in the negatives. Thankfully one of them finally made it an interesting game (with a tie in final jeopardy)

Jeopardy! Masters gets underway on ABC tonight...

"Jeopardy! Masters" is back for season 2 and this one promises to be just as competitive as last year's tournament. The winner will receive the grand prize of $500,000.
Contestants are defending champ James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach, Amy Schneider plus 2 new contestants -- Yogesh Raut and Victoria Groce.

"Vincent Zhou shout out on today's [May 7] "Jeopardy" episode!!! One of the contestants is a collegiate skater who said he was lucky enough to share the ice with Vince." https://twitter.com/TheGooseArmada/status/1787946234671485157

ETA - the contestant is Daniel King (here he is landing a single Salchow in October 2023): https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyBw_uBOTlw/
I watched this last evening. I'm accustomed to seeing clues about skaters, but having one mentioned by a contestant in their Ken talk-time was pretty cool.

Two-way tie? Pffft. My friend Anders was in the only 3-way tie on Jeopardy!

The Jeopardy video clip is in Instastory of @davidbaden at the moment -- it expires in about eleven hours or so.
And I think the fuller story is even better than the concise tweet.
My paraphrasing/highlights of what Daniel told Ken Jennings: Back in Daniel's middle-school years, his mother signed up Daniel and his brother for Learn to Skate and dragged them to skate at Mennen Arena every Saturday. When Daniel got injured, it was the perfect excuse for him to stop skating. Watching Beijing Olympics ten years later is what made Daniel realize that he kinda missed skating and what inspired him to join Brown University's figure skating club/team. "It's been a blast!" And he even has been able to skate on some of the same sessions as Vincent. "It's amazing to watch somebody like that."
The bits from Daniel King's listing on Jeopardy website: "Parsippany, New Jersey; Brown University Graduate."
